A beautiful day on Labor Day weekend.

A beautiful day on Labor Day weekend. 21 cars and trucks were in the parking lot of the Park with 9 people walking, 10 playing in the sand and surf, and 10 riding horses. There were no dogs. The sand has build up considerably since last report with much of the large wood at the north end of the mile now covered. There were sea weed and crab casings clustered all along the driftline. 12 dead birds were recorded, 6 Murres, 1 Pigeon Guillamot, 3 Cassin's Auklet, one California Gull and one immature gull. It was difficult to accurately ID the Auklets and Gulls. There were also several flocks of mixed shorebirds, mostly small dark ones with some slightly larger lighter ones. No vehicle tracks or disturbances of the shoreline were observed.

A nice bright day with a large group of birders from 30 cars looking for Snowy Plovers when I started but only 13 people walking or sitting on the beach on my way back.
