Light wrack of a few shells, feathers, kelp/algae, Dunegrass stems and the flowering plants, Zostera (Eelgrass) and Phyllospadix (Surfgrass).
Report Details
Light wrack of a few shells, feathers, kelp/algae, Dunegrass stems and the flowering plants, Zostera (Eelgrass) and Phyllospadix (Surfgrass). Sanderlings foraging on the wet sand. Three tracks of Harbor Seals entering Snowy Plover Habitat Restoration Site. Three Harbor Seals in mouth of New River. Pink Sand Verbena growing at Snowy Plover Habitat Restoration Site. Flocks of Canada Geese, Brant's Geese, Brown Pelican, Ring-billed Gulls and Scoter flying south over ocean and beach. Sand being removed from beach. Beach flat with a slope of 6 degrees. Logs, individual Bull Kelp (Nereocystis), Bull Kelp knots and cement dock washed by storm waves into the Snowy Plover Habitat Restoration Site. Many logs and wood on south end of mile. Logs and wood floating in old blocked channel of New River. Mouth of New River moved 475 ft. to the south. No wind. Air and ocean temperatures of 55 and 51.6 degrees F, respectively. No people on the beach.

Notable Wildlife
Three harbor seals in mouth of New River. Flocks of Canada Geese, Brant's Geese, Brown Pelican, Ring-billed Gulls and Scoter flying south over ocean and beach. Three tracks of Harbor Seals entering Snowy Plover Habitat Restoration Site, one going into the Dunegrass of foredune. Pink Sand Verbena growing at Snowy Plover Habitat Restoration Site.
Beached Birds
Total dead birds: 3. 2-Western Gull1- Northern Fulmar,dark phase with brain and breast eaten.
Driftline Content
Seaweeds and seagrass, Ocean-based debris (from fishing boats, ship trash, etc.), Shells, Small rocks, Wood pieces. Dunegrass stems.
Man-made Modifications
Cement dock washed into Snowy Plover Habitat Restoration site

Beach flat with a slope of 6 degrees. Logs, individual Bull Kelp (Nereocystis) and Bull Kelp knots washed by storm waves into the Snowy Plover Habitat Restoration Site. Many large logs and wood on south end of mile. Logs and wood floating in old blocked channel of New River. Mouth of New River moved 475 ft. to the south. No wind. Air and ocean temperatures of 55 and 51.6 degrees F, respectively.

Report from Diane and Dave BilderbackHere on the south coast, we have been having a wash up of a pelagic purple tunicate, Dolioletta gegenbauri, that at times causes a deep purple wash on the beach and also has colored small sand pools.
