Report Details
Sparse driftline of small rocks, a few shells and broken Sand Dollars. A few Sanderlings foraging on the wet sand. A gathering on Western Gulls and two Harbor Seals at the mouth of New River. Wind-blown beach very flat with a slope of 3 degrees. The mouth of New River continues to migrate to the north, eroding the dunes and leaving only 0.25 miles of accessible beach of Mile 96. Average wind speed of 23.9 mph. Air and ocean teperatures of 53 and 54 degrees, respectively.

ATV tracks in the sand. This may be from a Snowy Plover researcher or monitor.
Notable Wildlife
A few Sanderlings foraging on the wet sand. A gathering on Western Gulls and two Harbor Seals at the mouth of New River.

New River continues to erode the dune leaving a sand cliff of 15 ft.

Report from Diane and Dave BilderbackHere on the south coast, we have been having a wash up of a pelagic purple tunicate, Dolioletta gegenbauri, that at times causes a deep purple wash on the beach and also has colored small sand pools.
