European Dunegrass dominated the driftline with a few Bull Kelp and Sea Palm.
Report Details
European Dunegrass dominated the driftline with a few Bull Kelp and Sea Palm. Broken Sand Dollars and shells also present in the driftline. Flocks of Least Sandpipers foraging on the wet sand. Huge washup of the Pelagic snail, Carinaria and the small salp, Dolioletta. One specimen of another pelagic snail, Cliopsis. Large drift wood and logs on the beach. Small sticks and a few rocks in the driftline. One dead beaver high on the beach. One dead Western Grebe. mink tracks on high beach. One Harbor Seal in New River and Two Harbor Seals in the surf. New River and high surf eroded the dune for about 100 ft., leaving a sand cliff of 15 ft. Beach slope of 6 degrees. Air and ocean temperatures of 55 and 54 degrees, respectively. Wind speed of 4.7 mph. Two people and one dog on the beach.

Report from Diane and Dave BilderbackHere on the south coast, we have been having a wash up of a pelagic purple tunicate, Dolioletta gegenbauri, that at times causes a deep purple wash on the beach and also has colored small sand pools.
