Light driftline with few invertebrates (Ctenophores, Hydrozoa, Mole Crab and tunicates, pieces of Sea Jelly and appendage molts of barnacles), shells, rocks wood pieces, three large pieces of peat and a few Bull Kelp.

Light driftline with few invertebrates (Ctenophores, Hydrozoa, Mole Crab and tunicates, pieces of Sea Jelly and appendage molts of barnacles), shells, rocks wood pieces, three large pieces of peat and a few Bull Kelp. We found many stems and logs that had been cut and bark remove by beaver. One dead Glaucous-winged Gull and one dead Western Grebe. Flocks of foraging Sanderlings and Semipalmated Sandpipers. One degraded carcass of a Steller's Sea Lion (reported MMSN). One Harbor Seal swimming offshore. Beach with a gentle slope of 5 degrees. Large amount of driftl logs on southern end of mile. Erosion of 6 ft of sand at mouth of New River. Wind from SW at 10.3 mph. Air and ocena temperature of 50 and 50.2 degrees F., respectively. Removed large bag of ocean-based debris. Low human impact (0).

Notable Wildlife
Flocks of foraging Sanderlings, one Harbor Seal swimming offshore. One flock of Semipalmated Sandpipers.

Total dead birds: 2. 1-Glaucous-winged Gull and 1-Western Grebe
Stranded Marine Mammals
Total stranded mammals: 1. Young, very degraded and no head Steller's Sea Lion
Driftline Content
Seaweeds and seagrass, Animal casings (e.g., crab, shrimp molt), Ocean-based debris (from fishing boats, ship trash, etc.), Shells, Small rocks, Wood pieces. Sea Jelly pieces and several pieces of peat (organic material).
Natural Changes
Erosion of 6 ft of sand at mouth of New River.

Light driftline with few invertebrates (Ctenophores, Hydrozoa, Mole Crab (Emerita analoga), Tunicates (Styela and Distaplia) and molted appendages of barnacles) and a few Bull Kelp (Nereocystis). Large amount of drift logs on the southern end of beach. Stems cut and bark removed by beaver. Beach with a gentle slope of 5 degrees. Removed a large bag of ocean-based debris. Reported the Steller's Sea Lion to Jim Rice, Marine Mammal Standing Network.

Report from Diane and Dave BilderbackHere on the south coast, we have been having a wash up of a pelagic purple tunicate, Dolioletta gegenbauri, that at times causes a deep purple wash on the beach and also has colored small sand pools.
