The driftline consisted of discrete clumps of kelp/algae, Eelgrass and Surfgrass as well as shells, crab molt, small rocks, Ctenophores, worm tubes, keyhole limpet and broken Sand Dollars.

The driftline consisted of discrete clumps of kelp/algae, Eelgrass and Surfgrass as well as shells, crab molt, small rocks, Ctenophores, worm tubes, keyhole limpet and broken Sand Dollars. Western Tiger Beetle (Cicindela oregona oregona) on banks of Twomile Creek. A dead Coast Mole (Scapanus orarius) on the edge of New River. One Snowy Plover on the wet sand. Deer tracks on beach. Osprey landed in shallow surf and along New River. Three tree stumps of an ancient forest exposed by the New River. Erosion of banks of Two-mile Creek. Large riptide embayment with a beach slope of 8 degrees. Beach was flat with a slope of 4 degrees. Air and ocean temperatures of 54 and 56 degrees, respectively. Wind of 6.2 mph from the Northwest.

Notable Wildlife

The kelp/algae found in the driftline were: Cystoseira, Macrocarpus, Fucus, Nereocystis, Postelsia, Egregia, Mazzaella, Ulva and Lessoniopsis. The flowering plants Zostra and Phyllospadix were also in the driftline. Report from Diane and Dave BilderbackHere on the south coast, we have been having a wash up of a pelagic purple tunicate, Dolioletta gegenbauri, that at times causes a deep purple wash on the beach and also has colored small sand pools.
