Report Details

Severe erosion of the foredune at the southern end of the mile creating a 15 foot sand cliff. Driftline was very limited to an occasional shell and a few small rocks. The established Snow Plover Habitat has been newly plowed and enlarged to the south by leveling the sand dunes and removing the European Dunegrass. The floating dock had been bulldozed to the interior with a pile of logs. Large logs, dead dunegrass, wood and ocean-based debris were on the high beach along the entire length of the mile and along both banks of lower Twomile Creek. The mouth of New River has been converted into a bay about 500 feet across and had waves moving inland to the Gorse-coverd cliff behind the dunes. The beach had a slope ranging from 4 to 10 degrees. The air and ocean temperatures were 49 degrees, and the wind speed was 10.2 mph from the NW. Three people were distributing Pink Sand Verbena seed.
