Light driftline consisting of a few shells, rocks Sea Nettle jellies (Chrysaora fuscescens) and broken sand dollars.
Report Details
Light driftline consisting of a few shells, rocks Sea Nettle jellies (Chrysaora fuscescens) and broken sand dollars. Two groups (4&5) of California Sea lions swimming south in the surf. One Harbor Seal in ocean off of mouth of New River and another swimming in the ocean. Two Snowy Plover. Two large flocks of Western Sandpipers flying north over beach. Fox scat at pile of feathers. Four dead Northern Fulmar. One large dead Humboldt Squid (Dosidiscus gigas). Active sand removal at mouth of New River creating a 3 foot drop-off and on the beach creating two drop-offs. Beach slope ranging from 4 to 8 degrees. Wind speed of 2.3 mph from SE. Air and ocean teperatures of 48 and 48.5 degrees, respectively. Low human impact (2)-walking with a dog.

Report from Diane and Dave BilderbackHere on the south coast, we have been having a wash up of a pelagic purple tunicate, Dolioletta gegenbauri, that at times causes a deep purple wash on the beach and also has colored small sand pools.
