Much of the sand along the upper beach has gone since my Sept.
Report Details
Much of the sand along the upper beach has gone since my Sept. 5, 2010 walk, apparently from wave erosion. Flotsam now occurred higher on the beach that it had since last spring. I saw less than 1 small plastic particle (
Conditions
Temperature: 44 F. Cloud Cover: Sunny. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Wind Direction: NE. Tide Level: 5.5 feet.
Human Activities
Number of people: 6. Walking or running: 6. People were fewer than usual.
Notable Wildlife
29 gulls were on the sandy beach. Gulls were also on the western tip of the North Jetty but were not close enough to census.
Beached Birds
Total dead birds: 2. 1 Rhinoceros Auklet, 1 Western Grebe.
Driftline Content
Seaweeds and seagrass, Animal casings (e.g., crab, shrimp molt), Marine debris (plastic, styrofoam, etc. washing in from the sea).

The last several weeks have produced many lion's mane jelly fish on the beaches of Oregon's central coast.

One of the dead birds was a gull, am unsure what the other two were.
