Mile 158 - Oregon Dunes NRA, west of south end of Carter Lake - May 13, 2014

Report Details

Beautiful, warm, sunny day with only moderate winds from the north. On a stretch of beach that is normally devoid of traces of humans, seeing the many scattered pieces of broken Plexiglas, plastic bottles, fishing lures, Styrofoam, and net floats plus some other unidentified man-made objects was a bit of a surprise. 12 of the 14 cars in the parking lot belonged to members of a California based Mustang club. Don't know where all the drivers were, but only three sets of footprints led to the beach (don't know where the 4th person on the beach came from) and only 6 people were seen in the parking area.Highlight of the day was seeing the majestic bald eagle carrying its lunch.

Notable Wildlife

One plover and one American Bald eagle with lunch in it's talons.

Unusual concentration. Many crab casings at tide line.
