Mile 158 - Oregon Dunes NRA, west of south end of Carter Lake - June 3, 2014

Another beautiful day at the beach. High cloud cover that almost burned off by the time I finished the walk. Temperature started at 59 and worked itself up to a cloud-filtered warm 70 by the time I returned to the parking area.Wind varied from almost 0 to approximately 4 mph.Two friendly rangers were stationed at the wayside to answer any questions visitors might have about the Oregon Sand Dunes. Cars were from BC, Washington, California, Colorado, Arizona, Illinois, and Oregon.As opposed to the last report, there was very little tsunami debris. I noticed 3 bottles, a couple very, very small pieces of broken plastic and one 9" long piece of Styrofoam. No floats this week.Lots (really lots) of broken clam shells as shown in the photos. One oyster shell and a scattering of small pebbles. Only a couple crab molts. One piece of sea vegetation

Number of people: 22. Number of dogs: 1. Walking or running: 7. Playing in sand: 6. Other Activities: 9 in parking area. Nothing unusual. Most people were looking at the dunes. Six were running, stumbling down the dune on their way to the beach trail.

Apparent violations: unleashed dog going to beach.

4 plover and 6 gulls.
