Report Details

I missed an opportunity when the sun came out late the afternoon of March 18. Due to my busy schedule and the continual intense storms since March 19, I am just over two weeks late with this spring report.Piles of wood -- from small twigs to logs and rooted stumps -- are on the upper beach above the driftline. A very strong wind last Saturday cancelled the Beach Cleanup so plastic bottles and other debris are tangled with the piles of wood. The dead birds I saw seemed to be recently dead; they had no missing parts and the bodies were in good condition except for the pelican which had been partially eaten. I'm guessing the deaths were mostly because of the intense storms.

Beautiful day! Sunny clear blue skies (Tee shirt weather) about as good as it gets here. Beaches looked clean and in good shape.

Cloud cover broke as we were eating lunch prior to going into the beach. On the pocket beach by Battle Rock saw a dead tree looking ready to fall off Battle Rock, almost directly over where the tunnel exits onto that beach.

The beaches were pretty clean this visit except for an exceptional amount of small trees and branches up with the logs at high tide line. There was no one on the Port Beach but 3 different people used the picnic table at the Sailor memorial while I was there.

The dead jellies were only on the main beach, not the little pocket beach bordering Battle Rock.

Not much trash and minimal people activity, especially given what a beautiful day it was.
