Mile 262 Report
Cape Kiwanda State Park
July 21, 2020
The north bluff face of Cape Kiwanda is a sheer cliff now, much eroded from my last trip.
Report Details
The north bluff face of Cape Kiwanda is a sheer cliff now, much eroded from my last trip. There was evidence of many campfires in front of the vegetated dune all the way along my mile. Some, unfortunately, had been buried in sand by folks not realizing that just keeps the embers hot for anyone with bare feet stepping on them. Some picnic remains but mostly a pretty clean beach. Few people when I arrived, many by the time I left.
Conditions
Temperature: 62 F. Cloud Cover: Foggy. Wind Velocity: Moderate. Wind Direction: NE. Tide Level: 2.0 feet.
Human Activities
Number of people: 12. Number of dogs: 1. Walking or running: 6. Playing in sand: 2. Sitting: 2. Other Activities: 2 hang gliding. The access site is blocked off so cars are parked on the road. Only 4 were there when I arrived, about twice that many when I left
Driftline Content
Seaweeds and seagrass, Animal casings (e.g., crab, shrimp molt), Wood pieces.
Natural Changes
Newly exposed roots/trees falling, Erosion of vegetated foredune, Visible retreat of solid bluff.
