Report Details
The ocean continues to eat away at cliff. At least today, vehicles were staying where they belong
Conditions
Temperature: 49 F. Cloud Cover: Sunny. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Tide Level: 6 feet.
Human Activities
Number of people: 4. Number of dogs: 1. Walking or running: 4.
Vehicles
Notable Wildlife
Black Oystercatcher (notable to me since I monitor their nesting activity on Chief Kiawanda Rock) Belted Kingfisher (notable to me since I have not seen one before fishing from a wave-washed rock in the ocean)
Beached Birds
Total dead birds: 3. gull sp. Corvid (crow or raven) Common Murre
Driftline Content
Wood pieces. mostly vegetation debris the ocean had brought from eroding vegetated cliff
Man-made Modifications
A very *good* modification is a new sign by the dune saying "End of Open Area" and "No driving on the dune". The sign used to read "no cars beyond this sign" which was ignored by many. Today there were no tire tracks going up the dune, so hopefully this sign is helping.
Natural Changes
Newly exposed roots/trees falling, Erosion of vegetated foredune, Visible retreat of solid bluff, Evidence of wave overtopping. The ocean just keeps gnawing away at the vegetated cliff
