A number of people were at the Lookout at the Otter Crest State Wayside observing the grey whale activity that could be seen below and to the west.
Report Details
A number of people were at the Lookout at the Otter Crest State Wayside observing the grey whale activity that could be seen below and to the west. One close-in whale could be observed skimming along just under the surface of the calm water well before and after surfacing to breathe. Otherwise, the most notable wildlife was pelicans on the large pyramidal rock previously mentioned.

Temperature: 64 F. Cloud Cover: Partly Cloudy. Tide Level: 6.8 feet.

Other Activities: None noted.. No vehicles noted at the only possible shoreline access site (north end)..

Notable Wildlife
Four or five grey whales engaging in probable feeding behavior. Pelicans, cormorants, and gulls were seen flying and perched on rocks, particularly the large pyramidal rock located offshore at about the midpoint of the mile.

On a cool, partly cloudy, and somewhat windy afternoon, no people were directly observed along the shoreline, though I did see a couple vehicles parked on Otter Crest Loop above where people may have access to areas at the top of the bluff.

Mile 226 continues to see very little human activity due to the difficulty of access because of tall basalt cliffs rising directly out of the ocean with few small pocket beaches.
