Report Details

There was nobody observed along the shoreline of mile 226, however there were a number of people driving and stopping along Otter Crest Loop, the roadway that provides excellent overviews of the mile.  There were four or five vehicles at any one time at the Lookout and people were in the two obversation areas, despite the Lookout gift shop/interpretative center being closed.  The weather was exceptionallly good for this time of year, bringing out quite a large number of people.  No notable wildlife was observed and what driftline could be observed due to high tide was devoid of anything except for beach pebbles/cobbles.  Since the shoreline of this mile is composed of erosionally resistant basalt, and despite the intensity of the winter storms, there were no physical changes observed since the last observation three months ago.  And man-made changes have never been observed due to the resistant rock and the very great difficulty of human access.

Conditions

Temperature: 52 F. Cloud Cover: Partly Cloudy. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Wind Direction: N. Tide Level: 8.6 feet.

Human Activities

Note: These vehicles were parked just beyond the north end of mile 226 on Otter Crest Loop on mile 227 where, apparently, the occupants were on mile 227 as they were not observed on mile 226.

It was a very pleasant sunny day and the ocean was calm, so visibility at and slightly below the surface of the ocean was excellent.

It was a nice day to be observing the coast, what with the moderate temperature, light wind, and clouds that covered the sky thinly.
