Human activity was focused at the Lookout, where gray whales were being observed. No notable wildlife was observed along the shoreline, though at least two of the whales were quite close. No changes of any sort, man-made or natural, were observed along Mile 226.

Human Activities

The only human activity was at the State Park Lookout area near the south end of Mile 226, where there were a number of people watching four gray whales close in below and two several hundred yards to the north.

Notable Wildlife

Gray whales (six) as mentioned previously. These were in the area for some time, apparently feeding.

No human activity was noted on or near the shoreline, the only activity noted being people driving along Otter Crest Loop, with a few parking for short periods of time at the Lookout at Otter Crest Wayside for the views.

On a nice, fairly calm and partly cloudy day on the central Oregon coast, there were only a few people driving along Otter Crest Loop and even fewer stopping to enjoy the view from the the Lookout at Otter Crest State Scenic Wayside.

It was a very pleasant sunny day and the ocean was calm, so visibility at and slightly below the surface of the ocean was excellent.
