Report Details

There was essentially no human activity. Wildlife was notable by its absence. (Very little is typically observed.) The driftline could not be observed as the tide was high and the ocean was rough with significant wave run-up. No physical changes were noted. With the State of Oregon taking over the Lookout at Otter Crest State Wayside, an unsurpassed indoor viewing area - equipped with binoculars -next to the west and northwest-facing windows has been cleared of gift shop items, likely providing an additional reason for visiting. We are looking forward to the interpretive function being established. The attached photo of most of mile 226 was taken from this location.

On a cool, partly cloudy, and somewhat windy afternoon, no people were directly observed along the shoreline, though I did see a couple vehicles parked on Otter Crest Loop above where people may have access to areas at the top of the bluff.

Mile 226

Mile 226 continues to see very little human activity due to the difficulty of access because of tall basalt cliffs rising directly out of the ocean with few small pocket beaches.
