A much different scene than what we saw in April.
Report Details
A much different scene than what we saw in April.Presumably the multiple piles of kelp are a result of the recent storm. Purple sand dollar and 2 dead birds (gull & murre). Erosion in one area very interesting since appearing in a stepped process (see photo). Barnacles on a styrofoam block and small wood pieces covered with hydroids. 2 plastic bucket lids & part of a plastic bucket also found.

Number of people: 17. Number of dogs: 1. Walking or running: 15. Playing in surf: 2. People just walking on the beach, enjoying the day/weather.

Notable Wildlife
One purple live sand dollar along with one dead sand dollar (haven't seen sand dollars before in our mile)
Beached Birds
Total dead birds: 2. One gull which looked like it had been eaten. A dead murre (see photo) which was in excellent condition.
Dead Fish or Invertebrates
Unusual concentration. Lots of dead small crabs & not molts.
Driftline Content
Seaweeds and seagrass, Animal casings (e.g., crab, shrimp molt). Barnacles on styrofoam block; wood pieces covered with hydroids. Lots of kelp piles.
Natural Changes
Erosion of vegetated foredune, Newly exposed roots/trees falling, Visible retreat of solid bluff. Erosion still continuing south of Henderson Creek in the areas formerly reported as erosion concerns.

This time I concentrated on the area south of Henderson Creek where there is more activity. Photo submitted, & will be the last one. Beach was quite clean and probably because of the beach clean-up activities the previous Saturday.

Lovely sunny day with little wind.

A pleasant day on the beach at very low tide which exposed one large tidal pool which hadn't seen before.

Beach access previously had been closed for reconstruction.
