Lovely sunny day with little wind.
Report Details
Lovely sunny day with little wind. Not much human activitity on the beach. Lots of kelp, especially bull kelp, and more beached birds this time. Probably ATV tracks besides the South Beach Park ranger jeep's. Lots of human footprints but no rubbish.

Temperature: 55 F. Cloud Cover: Sunny. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Wind Direction: S. Tide Level: 8.5 feet.
Human Activities
Number of people: 8. Number of dogs: 3. Walking or running: 8. ATV tracks north of Henderson Creek -- lots of human footprints. Weekend activity probably. See photo of tracks.
Concerns
Apparent violations: Probable ATV tracks in Southshore complex area - north of Henderson Creek.

Cars/trucks parking: 1.
Beached Birds
Total dead birds: 6. Probably common murres including 1 chick and a larger beached bird at Soutshore complex wall.
Stranded Marine Mammals
Wonder if something in a photo is a beached mammal carcass. Didn't notice it when took the photo.
Driftline Content
Small rocks, Seaweeds and seagrass. Lots of kelp especially bull kelp which haven't been that numerous before. More seaweed, too.
New Development
Steps down bluff, Bluff development. Huge house being built just south of Soutshore and a new primitive stairway seen leading to the beach.
Man-made Modifications
New riprap or shoreline protection structures. Again something new seen with beached logs -- now set up vertically to probably bolster dunes.
Natural Changes
Erosion of vegetated foredune.
Actions & Comments
Will send photos of beached birds and especially the larger bird to COASST. Probably common murres except for the larger bird.

A pleasant day on the beach at very low tide which exposed one large tidal pool which hadn't seen before.

Beach access previously had been closed for reconstruction.

Around midnight last night, from our condo observed lights from a fishing boat apparently beached on South Beach, just south of SouthShore community.
