Report Details

A very pleasant day with sun and light wind.  Not many people out.  there were 2 helicopters, one being Coast Guard.  No bird activity except for the 4 vultures at the 5' dead seal.  Litter not bad.  Can't submit photo of large house above Henderson Creek which seems to be added onto as well as new roof -- the photo is too large.

Activities

Number of people: 4. Number of dogs: 2. Walking or running: 4.

Concerns

Apparent violations: A new house is being built just north of Henderson Creek. Already there is an informal trail from that site to the beach. The house just above the Creek is being enlarged..

Stranded Marine Mammals

Total stranded mammals: 1. One dead seal which 4 vultures have discovered. Photos were taken of the 5' seal and a report with photos have been sent to Jim Rice.

Dead Fish or Invertebrates

There were concentrated sections south of Henderson Creek where bleached pyrosomes or perhaps velella velella.

Wrackline Content

Small rocks, Seaweeds and seagrass, Shells. Mostly small broken shell pieces, some kelp but not a lot. Beach litter wasn't much either.

New Development

Steps down bluff, Bluff development. A house is being built just north of Henderson Creek and the large house already there is being added onto. Informal path leading down to the beach is already existing from the house under construction.

Fortunate to see neap tide and the wide expanse of the beach which was essentially clean except for the desiccated Velella velella which were everywhere.

On a sunny day with strong wind from the north, there were more people on the beach than normally seen but this was during school vacation time. People mostly walking along the coast although there was one family enjoying a day at the beach with chairs/igloo tent and the 3 boys playing in the channel water.

Sunny day except in an area of the Southshore neighborhood, where fog kept it cool.

This time I concentrated on the area south of Henderson Creek where there is more activity. Photo submitted, & will be the last one. Beach was quite clean and probably because of the beach clean-up activities the previous Saturday.
