Mile 213 Report
Henderson Creek, South Beach SP south
July 7, 2017
Cloudy day with practically no wind.
Report Details
Cloudy day with practically no wind. South Beach Park Ranger's truck tracks along the mile? Beach essentially clean which was good to see after 4th of July celebrations. Many flowering plants in sand dunes with small bumble bees -- hadn't seen these bees before. Some concentrations of tiny crabs and perhaps chitins. Crab molts. Trapped pools of water near driftline. Again saw 2 bald eagles (or perhaps one an osprey -- went too fast for a photo) and tumbling for a caught fish in talon. Saw this in April.
Conditions
Temperature: 59 F. Cloud Cover: Cloudy. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Wind Direction: NW. Tide Level: 4.0 feet.
Human Activities
Number of people: 11. Number of dogs: 1. Walking or running: 10. Other Activities: 1 driftwood removal. There were truck tracks but once saw ranger so perhaps ranger's truck tracks?

Notable Wildlife
1 definite bald eagle engaged in fish swapping with another bald eagle or osprey. Saw this also in April. Nest nearby? Happened too quickly to take photos. 20 gulls and 7 plovers. Dunes full of flowering plants with small bumblebees which we hadn't seen before.
Dead Fish or Invertebrates
Lots of crab molts and lots of very small crabs and perhaps chitins.
Driftline Content
Wood pieces.
Man-made Modifications
Dune modification/removal. It seemed there had been lots of sand added at beach entry near Surfland housing.

This time I concentrated on the area south of Henderson Creek where there is more activity. Photo submitted, & will be the last one. Beach was quite clean and probably because of the beach clean-up activities the previous Saturday.

We usually access the beach via an entry at Surfland which hasn't been easy in the past.
