Mile 195 Report
South San Marine Beach, Starr Creek
November 21, 2016
The clear day was a welcome break in the recent storm activity, bringing hikers and dogs to the beach.
Report Details
The clear day was a welcome break in the recent storm activity, bringing hikers and dogs to the beach. The beach was mostly washed clean of natural and human debris, but there were tube worm castings in the drift line. An unusual bird seen was either a red or red-necked phalarope. Starr Creek was raging and split into two branches as it entered the ocean. I "solved" the problem of a dry crossing by wearing SOLVE bag over my shoes.

It was a pleasant, warm day to share the 804 Trail and beach with quite a few visitors.

This is my first walk and report since losing my canine companion, Westly, over a year ago. The only important observation in this report is tire tracks from illegal driving on the beach.

Walking north oh Wayside Lodge I saw 15 or so dead Black Turnstone. That was the only species of bird that was dead. Lots of plastic bottles that I picked up.

I was just curious if a person who is knowledgeable about geology could explain what I'm seeing in the cliff here?
