Report Details

It was the best day in quite a while for trail and beach walking--warm and dry. Most of the hikers were on the 804 trail, which is closed at stairs above the beach at Starr Creek. Some hikers were walking down the rocks along the side of the stairs, but this route is steep, slippery and unsafe. Karen and Westly walked the mile in two segments: from Overlook Lodge north to the closure above Starr Creek and from Silver Surf Motel south to Starr Creek.

This is my first walk and report since losing my canine companion, Westly, over a year ago. The only important observation in this report is tire tracks from illegal driving on the beach.

Walking north oh Wayside Lodge I saw 15 or so dead Black Turnstone. That was the only species of bird that was dead. Lots of plastic bottles that I picked up.

I was just curious if a person who is knowledgeable about geology could explain what I'm seeing in the cliff here?
