Mile 195 Report
South San Marine Beach, Starr Creek
July 8, 2015
It was a great day for hiking, warm and after the July 4 crowds.
Report Details
It was a great day for hiking, warm and after the July 4 crowds. On the 804 Trail, the first salal berries were ripe, and I photographed a lovely wild rose (photo attached). No unusual natural or human activity was noticed, except for some fireplaces and campsites in woods east of the 804 Trail - probably not new, legality unknown.
Conditions
Temperature: 64 F. Cloud Cover: Cloudy. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Tide Level: 2.0 feet.
Human Activities
Number of people: 17. Number of dogs: 6. Walking or running: 17. Accessed from Overleaf Lodge. A new finding was a network of trails east of the 804 Trail, starting about 1/4 mile south of Overleaf Lodge. There were informal fireplaces and campsites in the woods, including 2 tepees (photo attached). These might be on private land. The legality is unknown to me.
Notable Wildlife
Whimbrel plus usual Western gulls and crows
Driftline Content
Animal casings (e.g., crab, shrimp molt), Shells.

This is my first walk and report since losing my canine companion, Westly, over a year ago. The only important observation in this report is tire tracks from illegal driving on the beach.

Walking north oh Wayside Lodge I saw 15 or so dead Black Turnstone. That was the only species of bird that was dead. Lots of plastic bottles that I picked up.

I was just curious if a person who is knowledgeable about geology could explain what I'm seeing in the cliff here?

Walking mile 195 has resumed, now that steps from the 804 trail to the beach, in the middle of the mile, are back up.

It was the best day in quite a while for trail and beach walking--warm and dry.
