A beautiful windless day once we got past the parking lot. There was an incredible amount of sand in the north half of our mile, with many of the tide pools covered over along with the anemones. We know the sand goes north in the winter but we have not seen it this high. We have done this mile for 10 years and so I checked our earlier reports. 14 Nov. 2010 the beach was all rocks except the parking lot section. 6 Dec. 12, was also all cobbles except the parking lot section. We saw very few cobbles at all, a few up against the sand cliffs only in the middle area. Usually we expect a rocky walk most times in the year. Maybe the sand is coming back again as it has been disappearing, we heard.

Crows, gulls, 1 Red Tailed Hawk, 1 Oystercatcher, 24 starlings, 3 Brown Pelicans, 9 Harlequin Ducks, 1 Great Blue Heron, 2 Brandt's Cormorants, 2 Pacific Loons, 10 Ring Billed Gulls, 19 Surfbirds, 200+ Surf Scoters out in the water. 4 Harbor Seals.

When we arrived in the parking lot it was almost full but people seemed to be leaving.

It was a lovely day but the sand is gone from all but the first part of the beach so the rest is cobbles, making it hard to walk.

A lovely, mainly sunny day without wind.

The day was very foggy so we didn't expect to see many birds but were very surprised to see 18 species, which has only happened two other times since 2003.

A sunny, very windy day that brought out a lot of people to enjoy the beach, mostly staying in the first sandy area.

It was a beautiful clear day and the wind only started up about 3 in the afternoon.

Florence had some rain but when we got to the mile it was just overcast and kept getting brighter.

A lovely day and the summer sand is still there making it easy to walk.
