Report Details
A lovely day. Spring mating season so a lot of the species were paired off. Someone has built a large tent shape enclosure out of big pieces of driftwood near the parking lot. Except for the first section of Stonefield Beach, the other sections were all cobbles and rocks. Good for rock hunters but hard for walkers. Few people go past the sand. A Bald Eagle flew over us in the parking lot. Two new birds, 2 Rufus Hummingbirds near the parking lot, and Tree Swallows near the bluffs.

1 Bald Eagle, 3 Tree Swallows, 1 Red Winged Blackbirds, 20+Barn Swallows, 3 Pigeon Guillemots, 2 Oyster Catchers, 2 Harlequin Ducks, 2 Ravens, 2 Starlings, 2 House Finches, 2 Rufus Hummingbirds, 2 Surf Scoters, 4 Pelagic Cormorants, 3 Brandt's Cormorants, 1 Red Tailed Hawk, crows, gulls. 7 Harbor Seals.
Dead Fish or Invertebrates
Quite a few carcasses of crabs, body eaten out.
Driftline Content
Small rocks, Seaweeds and seagrass, Shells, Animal casings (e.g., crab, shrimp molt), Wood pieces, Land-based debris (picnics, etc.), Styrofoam, Ocean-based debris (from fishing boats, ship trash, etc.).
New Development
Steps down bluff. At the end of Stonefield Beach there is a new stairway down to the rocks, cemented in.

When we arrived in the parking lot it was almost full but people seemed to be leaving.

It was a lovely day but the sand is gone from all but the first part of the beach so the rest is cobbles, making it hard to walk.

The day was very foggy so we didn't expect to see many birds but were very surprised to see 18 species, which has only happened two other times since 2003.

A sunny, very windy day that brought out a lot of people to enjoy the beach, mostly staying in the first sandy area.

It was a beautiful clear day and the wind only started up about 3 in the afternoon.

Florence had some rain but when we got to the mile it was just overcast and kept getting brighter.
