Report Details

We saw our first sea otter on the rocks along the edge of the ocean, and later in the water in a shallow inlet. THIS MAMMALS TURNS OUT TO BE AN AMERICAN RIVER OTTER, a creature with a broader nose and relatively larger eyes than the Sea Otter. So the Sea Otter was a false alarm. On March 1, 2002 we took a picture of the beach from the parking lot. It was all sand to the first rock outcrop. This time the sand only reached half way to the rocks. There was a large collection of dead mussel shells up against the cliff face. Above the face is an old shell midden.
