Report Details

Lots of visitors to Ocean Beach on this warm February day.  For the first time in several visits, I was able to walk the entire length of the beach.  It appears that the landslide/foredune erosion on the north end of the beach by the cave has gotten larger. Lots of driftwood on the north end of the beach as well. The recent tsunami brought a lot of sand onto the beach; many of the rock fields were covered again.  There continues to be a large amount of big pieces of styrofoam all along the beach, but again; many people were picking it up.

Conditions

Temperature: 50 F. Cloud Cover: Sunny. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Wind Direction: SE. Tide Level: 1.7 feet.

Human Activities

Number of people: 16. Number of dogs: 7. Walking or running: 9. Sitting: 2. It was a warm day with a low tide. Lots of visitors on the beach.

Vehicles

Cars/trucks parking: 10.

Beached Birds

Report filed with COASST

Driftline Content

Small rocks, Seaweeds and seagrass, Marine debris (plastic, styrofoam, etc. washing in from the sea), Styrofoam.

Natural Changes

Landslides/major boulder falls, Erosion of vegetated foredune.

Actions & Comments

The erosion of the foredune is noticeable all along the beach.  The landslide/foredune erosion on the north end of the beach appears larger than on my initial observation in December as this was the first time the tide level allowed for walking the entire length of the beach.
