Mile 184 - N of Ocean Beach Picnic Area, S of Squaw Creek - July 13, 2023

Report Details

A bit of a blustery day on Ocean Beach. The north end of the beach was not accessible because of the tide. There weren't too many people on the beach today. There are still plenty of rock fields exposed but the sand drifts have moved in. I noted a landslide about 100 yards north of the stairs to the beach. It looks like a section of the bluff, mostly rocks and some dirt, collapsed. On the bluff about mid beach, there is a stretch of exposed old driftwood in the bluff. It's more worn away than I have noted on past visits. As I reported on my last visit, the cave now has several pigeon guillemots roosting, nesting or both. I counted about 25 birds. They were busy flying back and forth to the water with fish in their beaks. I didn't observe any nests in the rock scapes but I did observe several birds going in and out of crevices in the rocks.
