Mild day on the beach, amazing amount of log debris near the dunes.

Mild day on the beach, amazing amount of log debris near the dunes. Foredune has not been replaced in area where it is now missing, but grass beginning to repopulate the big dune front. 3 trucks from Univ of Portland Research driving south from Takenitch Creek area in the restricted Plover area. Very few birds.
Conditions
Temperature: 62 F. Cloud Cover: Cloudy. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Wind Direction: N. Tide Level: -0.1 feet.
Human Activities
Other Activities: None. Folks were parked and camping just outside the drive out to the beach in allowed area
Concerns
Apparent violations: There were 3 Univ of Portland Research Center driving on the wet sand coming south from the Takenitch Creek area. Do they have special dispensation to drive in the Plover area?.

Notable Wildlife
1 Turkey Vulture, Canadian Goose in the tide line water, 1 crow, 1 pelican
Beached Birds
Total dead birds: 1. Leavings of gull, maybe attacked by a larger bird
Driftline Content
Wood pieces. Clean beach except for much log debris up near the dunes. Possibly from the Feb storm. See Pictures.

Natural Changes
Erosion of vegetated foredune, Visible retreat of solid bluff, Evidence of wave overtopping. Foredune has been eroded for a large part of our mile. See picture of where beach grass is beginning to come up again.

Very foggy start to the walk, by the time we left the beach it was clear at 10:49am.

A beautiful sunny, windy day for a walk on the beach. Disturbing to see that an ATV had driven from past the north of our mile down to the bottom 1/4 of our mile in the Plover Nesting Protection zone.
