Mile 153 - Oregon Dunes NRA, west of Threemile Lake - July 14, 2018

Very foggy start to the walk, by the time we left the beach it was clear at 10:49am. We could see much more of the ocean floor than ever before with large wave formed pot holes along about 100 feet in middle of mile. Only one flock of Sanderlings at the south end of our mile with about 5 seagulls. Several live animals - long worm, a bug that we did not recognize one about ever 2 feet along our mile, sand fleas, large jellyfish, many unknown young, in the tidepools of the potholes. Very active and burrowing constantly.

Temperature: 54 F. Cloud Cover: Foggy. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Wind Direction: NW. Tide Level: -2.0 feet.

Human Activities

Other Activities: none. Only on mile 152 there lots of folks digging for clams in the early am, then fishing by the time we returned.

Apparent violations: none.

Vehicles

Cars/trucks parking: 7.

Driftline Content

Seaweeds and seagrass. Clean beach! Green algae along all the drift lines up to high tide line.

Natural Changes

Erosion of vegetated foredune. We have mentioned fore dune islands, this time the fore dune seems to be disappearing all along our mile and some on Mile 152. You can see the back dune in many places.

A beautiful sunny, windy day for a walk on the beach. Disturbing to see that an ATV had driven from past the north of our mile down to the bottom 1/4 of our mile in the Plover Nesting Protection zone.
