Mile 153 - Oregon Dunes NRA, west of Threemile Lake - June 25, 2016

Beautiful sunny windy day at the beach. The beach closed to motor traffic plover sign was 1/4 mile south of our mile, new sign and placement. Quiet on our mile with no birds. Shrimp molt, clumps of dead whole crabs, small clumps of shredded packing paper and broken shells in the tide line area. Foredunes totally missing in some areas, see photos. Large driftwood at front of dune. Might have been newly exposed or might be new. Don't remember seeing this in prior years. Mile 152 a baby elephant seal looking poorly nourished was resting according to Forest Service person who happened along as we walked.

No birds!!! Unusual.

Stranded Marine Mammals

On north section of Mile 152, 1 elephant seal baby resting but looking poorly nourished. Forest Service person happened along and photographed.

Shells, Animal casings (e.g., crab, shrimp molt). Whole dead crabs in clumps, 3 times on our mile, some clumps of shredded packing material

Very foggy start to the walk, by the time we left the beach it was clear at 10:49am.

A beautiful sunny, windy day for a walk on the beach. Disturbing to see that an ATV had driven from past the north of our mile down to the bottom 1/4 of our mile in the Plover Nesting Protection zone.
