A beached California sea lion, approximately 9' in length, was observed on the sand beach between Otter Crest and Devil's Punchbowl, an estimated 75-100' south of the trail entrance to the beach (not the stairs entrance), at the high drift line.

A beached California sea lion, approximately 9' in length, was observed on the sand beach between Otter Crest and Devil's Punchbowl, an estimated 75-100' south of the trail entrance to the beach (not the stairs entrance), at the high drift line. This is not my regular mile, but I was surveying for beached seabirds as a COASST volunteer. I will try to return for a photo at my earliest convenience.

The day at Otter Rock (Devil's Punchbowl State Park) and Otter Crest Resort was clear and warm for January.

The was a lot of Ball Kelp on the beach, more than you would normally see, other than that everything appeared normal.

I saw only a few surfers on the beach below the Devils Punchbowl state park trying to surf, but there was not enough wave action to surf.
