May 26, 2014
A busy weekend as Rockaway Beach hosted the annual kite festival and the usual Memorial Day crowd.
Report Details
A busy weekend as Rockaway Beach hosted the annual kite festival and the usual Memorial Day crowd...both bound to generate more than the average amount of "human" debris. All things considered, it wasn't as bad as one might expect...20 bottles & cans, a nice variety of paper & plastic, and even a few items of Japanese origin. Surprisingly, the driftline was almost completely devoid of debris of the "natural" kind...just a smattering of crab molt and broken shells. Also noticed how the sand and sea grass continue to reclaim their place in the rip rap that holds Rockaway Beach together. It was a pleasant walk this mild Spring evening
