Report Details

Large bale of styrofoam found. Approximately 2 ft high by 18" wide. Removed from beach and disposed of in trash. Relatively clean beach for the end of spring break. A few broken pieces of glass, a soda bottle, and several lids of bottles and a few cans. Posted signs remain in front of the new condo building on n 3rd street and the beach. They’re posted in the sand.

Temperature: 38 F. Cloud Cover: Rain. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Wind Direction: NW. Tide Level: 2.4 feet.

Human Activities

Very few people on the beach. A group was north of us at sunset (although dodging storms).

Concerns

Apparent violations: Posted signs remain in front of the new condo building on n 3rd street and the beach. They’re posted in the sand. This has been reported multiple times..

Rockaway Beach, State Wayside

February 19, 2024

I observed new signs in Rockaway city proper, restricting using the public access to the beach at 1st and 2nd Avenues. Sign reads NO ACCESS: Until further notice, all city owned paths, walkways, stairs, and any other improved or unimproved access ways to recreation areas are closed.
