Report Details

I have never seen so much plastic debris EVER on Rockaway Beach. We walked south of our house (Mile 293) to town this morning and picked up what we could and met a couple who had filled two garbage bags. There were plastic water bottles, caps and lids, styrofoam, large plastic containers, and tons of ground up plastic; all of it appeared to have been in the ocean for some time as it had brown on it. After dinner we walked north (Mile 294) and found the same thing. We put two garbage bags of bottles and lids in our garbage can, but we barely made a dent in the remaining debris.

I love to see tourist families come down and enjoy the beach, but some use the beach as a party house and just leave a mess behind.
