The plan was to watch the sun set at the solstice, but we were a day late. Saturday was cloudy and a light rain started a little prior to the 9:09 sunset. (according to my tidebook)

Number of people: 6. Walking or running: 6. Started in Cape Meares at Bayocean Road. This is not the chief access to mile 289.

Apparent violations: none.

Cars/trucks parking: 3.

Notable Wildlife

lots of sea grass piled up in the wrack.

Beached Birds

Total dead birds: 1. left wing only. Not a seabird. Most likely some type of hawk.

Dead Fish or Invertebrates

Molting season for crabs. Lots of shells and dead crabs.

Seaweeds and seagrass, Animal casings (e.g., crab, shrimp molt), Land-based debris (picnics, etc.), Ocean-based debris (from fishing boats, ship trash, etc.), Shells, Small rocks, Styrofoam, Wood pieces. nothing unusual found

I saw so many different types of birds along the jetty, I'm no bird expert but I thought I saw pelicans, herons, cormorants, and sea gulls.
