Mile 259 Report
Nestucca Spit State Park, Kiwanda Beach
April 21, 2012
There was lots of human activity on this sunny, warm weekend day: Relaxing, walking, playing in the sand, and riding horses.
Report Details
There was lots of human activity on this sunny, warm weekend day: Relaxing, walking, playing in the sand, and riding horses. The beach has accumulated lots of sand during the winter, but the surfline shows evidence of rip currents. The beach was very clean--probably because of its steepness and recent strong surf.
Conditions
Temperature: 60 F. Cloud Cover: Sunny. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Tide Level: 6.5 feet.
Human Activities
Number of people: 30. Number of dogs: 6. Walking or running: 5. Playing in sand: 8. Sitting: 6. Other Activities: 11 on horseback. It was a beautiful, warm weekend day-probably the nicest of the year. It was hard to count the people because of lots of coming-and-going. Saw a few vehicle tracks along the wet beach in an approved vehicle area.
Vehicles
Notable Wildlife
Nothing but a few gulls.
Driftline Content
The beach was super-clean, no obvious driftline.
Man-made Modifications
None.
Natural Changes
Sand has built up on the beach over the winter.
Actions & Comments
There is more sand on this stretch of beach than we can remember in the 15+ years we have been CoastWatching this beach. The beach is quite angled from the top of the foredune down to the wet sand. The surf line itself was quite "scalloped"--probably due to rip currents.
