Report Details

The day we visited the beach was busier than what it has been. We took out four white bags of picnic trash. The wrack line was grass we had not observed before. We found a lot of drying By-the-Wind Sailor. There were more pieces of wood than normal.

Temperature: 42 F. Cloud Cover: Cloudy. Wind Velocity: Moderate.

Human Activities

Number of people: 27. Number of dogs: 8. Walking or running: 20. Sitting: 5. Fishing: 2. Other Activities: Included playing in the surf (2 people) with being active on the coast.. There were a lot of people walking their dogs on the day we visited. 2 people with electric bikes not just biking.

Concerns

Litter

Notable Wildlife

Saw a whale come out of the water and slam down - quite far out but got our attention because of the loud sound. Just saw what we think was the front part of the whale just going under the water after the sound.

Driftline Content

Land-based debris (picnics, etc.), Marine debris (plastic, styrofoam, etc. washing in from the sea). After having been looking at the wrack line since fall, it was fascinating to discover that the wrack line was different than any we had yet to see. There was 1 small bull kelp and a lot of brown thick grass that we did not identify. We do have a picture of it. In one area, there was a lot of human trash and we packed out bags of picnic type trash. Will upload photos of both.
