Windy, damp day for the mile walk.
Report Details
Windy, damp day for the mile walk. Evidence of king tide from flatted grasses and newly exposed logs on bluff. Collected one trash bag of marine/plastic debris. Mostly styrofoam, rather than plastics from previous years at this time. Winds were strong, and blown sand over much of the wrackline making small plastics less visible.
Conditions
Temperature: 50 F. Cloud Cover: Cloudy. Wind Velocity: Strong. Wind Direction: S. Tide Level: 2.0 feet.
Human Activities
Number of people: 20. Number of dogs: 6. Walking or running: 20. Evidence of off road vehicle, looks a like a large truck due to size of tires. Entered through grass and driven mile south on beach from north end of mile. 45.12179 -123.98017. (See pic)

Cars/trucks parking: 3.
Driftline Content
Small rocks, Seaweeds and seagrass, Shells, Wood pieces, Land-based debris (picnics, etc.), Styrofoam, Ocean-based debris (from fishing boats, ship trash, etc.).
Natural Changes
Newly exposed roots/trees falling, Visible retreat of solid bluff.

It was a beautiful day with many people walking, sitting and playing on the beach. Where the significant erosion of dunes occurred last March, two sets of stairs have been built into and down the face of the dunes. I have pictures of both ladders.

There has been additional erosion since I reported the significant loss of dunes and trees in March.

The north 1/2 mile of 254 was recently eroded to the point that I did not recognize it.

One cannot help but notice the 120+ large clumps on entangled kelp all along mile 254.

The north half mile of 254 (after the end of the rip rap )has experienced serious erosion.

There is a marked difference between the 1/4 mile of rip rapped beach with its gentle slope and 2' shelf of sand blown against the rocks AND the north 3/4 mile where the dunes are receeding and are eroding in height.

It has been two months since my last observation and, of course, there have been many storms, a great deal of rain and high winds in that time.
