Mile 221 Report
Schooner Pt, Moolack Beach S of Moolack Creek
July 25, 2011
Beautiful evening.
Report Details
Beautiful evening. One car at Schooner point, four cars at the pullout South of Moolack parking lot. Nine or ten people, half walking, half playing with dogs. There were large groups of gulls about every ¼ mile. Quite a bit of bull kelp. Too much trash! Collected and removed three bags of mostly plastic debris. Moved some larger items to an area above the high tide line. Counted seven dead birds, 2 common murre, 2 cormorant, 1 surf scoter, 2 unknown. This looks to be an area of active erosion. Being my first report, I took lots of photos to have a baseline for future comparison.

Gorgeous, quiet winter afternoon alongside dozens of sea pickles, a moderate rockslide at south end, disconcerting complete absence of birds, and sadly typical two armfuls of marine debris.

I walk this beach most days and it's been unremarkable besides the typical gulls, cyclical ocean deposits, and sporadic walkers.

1) Of historical note is the fallen arch at Schooner Pt November 2022 2) Absent this year thus far are any whale spouts visible from shore. 3) The Moolack Beach access trail from the parking area is heavily overgrown with bushes.

There was nothing startling or unusual about this beachwalk except that we noted significant destruction of a staircase and its foundation below the large vacation rentals just south of Moolack Beach.
