Report Details

This is my first report in 2020 although I have walked all or part of this mile several times this summer. No significant changes to the beach or cliffs was noted since last fall. In all my visits, I have only noted one dead bird which is unusual and no dead marine mammals or fish.  In general, there is more activity on this section of beach than I have seen in most previous summers. On July 28, 2020 I did a beach clean up with 6 family members. Items found included: plastic bottles and bottle caps, beverage cans, food & snack wrappers, treated wood including plywood with fiberglass backing, bag of dog poop, a diaper, flip flops, clothing items, marine rope, some small pieces of plastic although no large amounts of micro plastics, several cigarette butts & 2 disposable masks.

Temperature: 62 F. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Tide Level: 1.1 feet.

Human Activities

Number of people: 21. Number of dogs: 4. Walking or running: 18. Playing in sand: 3.

Vehicles

Cars/trucks parking: 5. RVs/Buses parking: 2.

Driftline Content

Seaweeds and seagrass, Animal casings (e.g., crab, shrimp molt).

I walk this beach most days and it's been unremarkable besides the typical gulls, cyclical ocean deposits, and sporadic walkers.

1) Of historical note is the fallen arch at Schooner Pt November 2022 2) Absent this year thus far are any whale spouts visible from shore. 3) The Moolack Beach access trail from the parking area is heavily overgrown with bushes.

There was nothing startling or unusual about this beachwalk except that we noted significant destruction of a staircase and its foundation below the large vacation rentals just south of Moolack Beach.
