Report Details

38 is a large number of people on this section of beach for any time of year but it was a sunny, windless day so it was perfect for beach walking.  Most of the people were at the south end of the mile. Usually, there are more people at the northern end by the Moolack Shores Inn and Moolack Beach parking areas. Lots of bull whip kelp, sea palm and what I think is eelgrass on the beach. There were not as many gulls as I usually see here but that may be because of the large number of dogs. Although some of the dogs were off leash, I did not note them disturbing the few gulls that were in the surf.

Conditions

Temperature: 56 F. Cloud Cover: Sunny. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Wind Direction: NW. Tide Level: 3.0 feet.

Human Activities

Number of people: 38. Number of dogs: 10. Walking or running: 28. Playing in surf: 7. Sitting: 2.

Beached Birds

Total dead birds: 4. 2 gulls, other 2 were too badly decayed for me to determine the species. No leg bands noted.

Driftline Content

Seaweeds and seagrass, Animal casings (e.g., crab, shrimp molt), Wood pieces, Land-based debris (picnics, etc.). Very little man caused debris.

Natural Changes

No significant changes noted.
