Report Details
At the Moolack end of the mile there was an unusually high concentration of small plastic and styrofoam pieces in the wrack line and on the rocks. Lots of bottlecaps, lighters, and a few toothbrushes! We also found lots of rope pieces, some of them quite long, an entire unmarked crab cage and float, and just a few bottles.
Conditions
Temperature: 55 F. Cloud Cover: Cloudy. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Tide Level: -1.7 feet.
Activities
Number of people: 6. Number of dogs: 1. Walking or running: 6.
Other Activities: The late-in-the-day minus tide and cloudy day probably were the reason so few people took advantage of this warm, windless afternoon..
Notable Wildlife
The usual three scoter species in the surf, Brown Pelican flybys, 3 Black Oystercatchers, and gulls.
Beached Birds
Total dead birds: 1. One dead unmarked Common Murre
Stranded Marine Mammals
Total stranded mammals: 1. I returned to Moolack Beach the day after our beachwalk to pick up trash. Because I was so close to the rip-rap then I discovered (and reported) a dead carcass of what might have been a California Sea Lion.
Wrackline Content
Animal casings or molts, Animal casings or molts, Ocean-based debris (from fishing boats, ship trash, etc.), Plastic debri (plastic, styrofoam, etc. washing in from the sea), Shells, Small rocks, Styrofoam, Wood pieces. We liberated an entire crab trap from the rocks. Unusually high accumulation of styrofoam, small plastic bits at Moolack end.

- Visible new rock slide erosion along half of the mile - Young off-leash dog who harassed my dog and would not relent until the nonplussed owner slowly walked over the 70 yards minutes later; the dog was let off leash again to run all around, out of voice command, chasing shorebirds.

Gorgeous, quiet winter afternoon alongside dozens of sea pickles, a moderate rockslide at south end, disconcerting complete absence of birds, and sadly typical two armfuls of marine debris.

I walk this beach most days and it's been unremarkable besides the typical gulls, cyclical ocean deposits, and sporadic walkers.

1) Of historical note is the fallen arch at Schooner Pt November 2022 2) Absent this year thus far are any whale spouts visible from shore. 3) The Moolack Beach access trail from the parking area is heavily overgrown with bushes.

This is my first report in 2020 although I have walked all or part of this mile several times this summer.
