Mile 220 Report
Yaquina Head north, Schooner Creek south
May 16, 2018
The walk started with a very light mist, and then cleared off.
Report Details
The walk started with a very light mist, and then cleared off. The birds have returned to the Lighthouse area, I could have easily counted a thousand.I noticed there is new plastic pipe showing at the equivalence of NW 61st Street from erosion near the top of the cliff.
Conditions
Temperature: 50 F. Cloud Cover: Cloudy. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Tide Level: -1.9 feet.
Human Activities
Number of people: 6. Number of dogs: 2. Walking or running: 2. Tidepooling: 4. There were three pairs of people--the first pair had two dogs and were headed north while I headed south toward Lighthouse cliff.
Notable Wildlife
Too many birds to count.
Driftline Content
Marine debris (plastic, styrofoam, etc. washing in from the sea), Ocean-based debris (from fishing boats, ship trash, etc.). There was more small plastic pieces than usual on the beach. As usual the bulk of the plastic was toward the Lighthouse part of mile 220. There was some plastic rope. Note: there were also many "lacework" like remains from the sailing jellyfish vellela vellela.
Natural Changes
Landslides/major boulder falls, Newly exposed roots/trees falling. Mile 220 continues to erode because of sandstone and siltstone--some trees are tilting and will fall down on the path to the beach from Meander and NW 57th Street.

A sad day for Mile 220, although the weather was amazing it was super hard and sad to see the tar globs in the mid-section of my mile.
