Yaquina Head Lighthouse is always interesting, there is an abundance of marine observation available to the casual observer: tidepools, seabirds, mammals.

Yaquina Head Lighthouse is always interesting, there is an abundance of marine observation available to the casual observer: tidepools, seabirds, mammals. This day there was hail, thunder, lightning and gale force winds.There was increased amount of small driftwood in most tidepools not observed on previous visits. Other than decaying sea lion and 2 Oystercatchers, the normal populations of algae, mollusks, urchins,anemones and barnacles were observed. Few seals and no seabird arrival on offshore rocks.

Number of people: 13. Tidepooling: 13. In spite of thunder, lightening and gale force winds people were observing the sights at Yaquina Head Lighthouse.

Several large(8-10 inch)sea stars, no immature sea stars observed, 2 Oyster Catchers observed, other sea birds not yet arrived, normal populations seashore plants, anemones, mollusks, barnacles.
Dead Fish or Invertebrates
Decaying sea lion carcass previously seen at Nye Beach and D.Davis Memorial Park a month ago.

It was a chilly, cloudy/foggy Monday morning so there were only a handful of visitors in the park, none of whom were on the beach.
