We discovered a black oystercatcher nest at the far east side of our beach along the cliff side.

We discovered a black oystercatcher nest at the far east side of our beach along the cliff side. Once chick has since hatched.

Temperature: 56 F. Cloud Cover: Sunny. Wind Velocity: Moderate. Wind Direction: E. Tide Level: -2.2 feet.

Number of people: 176. Number of dogs: 1. Walking or running: 40. Sitting: 10. Photography: 5. Tidepooling: 120. Other Activities: Dog Walking - 1. Vehicle count was made at the beginning of the survey but changed frequently while surveying.

Total dead birds: 5. 2 western gulls, 1 cormorant, and 2 unidentifiable birds. One of the unidentifiable birds had both a purple and a brown zip tie on its bone, which appeared to be a wing bone.
Dead Fish or Invertebrates
Velella velella found on the beach. Not in unusual concentrations for this time of year.
Driftline Content
Small rocks, Seaweeds and seagrass, Shells, Animal casings (e.g., crab, shrimp molt), Wood pieces, Land-based debris (picnics, etc.), Styrofoam, Ocean-based debris (from fishing boats, ship trash, etc.).

It was a chilly, cloudy/foggy Monday morning so there were only a handful of visitors in the park, none of whom were on the beach.
