Report Details

All in all a beautiful low tide day with very little debris on the beach. Observed bird life included seagulls, swallows, turkey vultures, and crows.

Temperature: 56 F. Wind Velocity: Moderate. Wind Direction: NW. Tide Level: -0.3 feet.

Concerns

Fire

Apparent violations: Evidence of small campfire on beach.

Vehicles

Cars/trucks on beach, allowed: 6.

Dead Fish or Invertebrates

Unusual concentration. A large number of seagulls on the far north end of this coastline segment were taking advantage of the very low tide and pulling off and trying to eat sea stars. Many dead sea stars in this area.

Driftline Content

Small rocks, Styrofoam. Because of the high/low tides the driftline was in the rocks with almost no perceptible debris. A few pieces of larger styrofoam found.

New Development

Steps down bluff. The steps down bluff were defined on an old foot path that leads to the area of beach by the Gwynn Creek culvert. The exposed ground shows that it is a shell midden.

Natural Changes

Large driftwood logs have washed up on shore at the base of the South Neptune Beach parking lot stairs. These were just recently rebuilt after previous storm damage and the logs look like they have the potential of now damaging the bottom stairs.

Low tide and high sand made the beach accessible and exposed many sea stars. Beach very clean.

Steps were fully developed over an old foot trail down the bluff that leads to the beach by Gwynn Creek culvert.

Large driftwood logs near base of South Neptune Beach parking lot could cause damage.
