Due to scattered showers still occurring, few people on the beach.
Report Details
Due to scattered showers still occurring, few people on the beach. Recent storms have brought in several large trees and numerous pieces of large driftwood. More trash than usual, filling (over-filling) large trash sack, mostly picnic-related. Storm-related erosion has created large promontory in the vegetated foredune toward south end of mile.

Temperature: 50 F. Cloud Cover: Cloudy. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light.
Human Activities
Number of people: 2. Walking or running: 2.
Notable Wildlife
Western Sandpipers, but not in the numbers usually seen; large number of Brown Pelicans scattered among huge gathering of gulls at river mouth
Beached Birds
Total dead birds: 12. Due to state of decomp., not sure about species in some cases, but of those ID'd, all were gulls
Driftline Content
Seaweeds and seagrass, Animal casings (e.g., crab, shrimp molt), Land-based debris (picnics, etc.), Ocean-based debris (from fishing boats, ship trash, etc.), Shells, Styrofoam, Wood pieces.
Natural Changes
Erosion of vegetated foredune.

Snowy plover fencing intact and no one violating that rule.

Very windy day and only saw one person on the beach.

It was a beautiful cold windy day.

My mile was actually inaccessible the ponds on either side of the path had grown together and blocked the path at least a hundred yards before the normal little ford I always have to cross It will be a while before that goes down.

My biggest surprise was the lack of trash, I nearly always bring three or four bags of trash off the beach, but not today.

With the effort of many volunteers we collected four heaping pickup loads of trash, including a hot water heater from a five mile stretch

My usual scenic walk along the Siltcoos River was under water today.
